To mark “500 Years of Freedom Rights”, the facade of the Shopkeepers’ Guild in Memmingen became a spectacular projection surface for an impressive mapping show. Every 30 minutes, visitors experienced an audiovisual production that told the story of the Twelve Articles – the central manifesto of the peasants’ war -, the freedom movement and the peasant wars of 1525. The peasants, the Shopkeepers’ Guild and their role in this historical development were brought to life in a fascinating light and sound show.
The Digital Media team developed a convincing concept with a detailed storyboard that made the historical events audiovisually tangible. The story of “500 Years of Freedom Rights” was told in impressive images and elaborate 3D animations and complemented by a harmonious sound design. This soundscape emphasised the show's emotional impact and was enhanced by the intensified surround sound system throughout the square.
In addition to the detailed facade projection, controlled by a Pixera media server, and the surround sound installation for the entire square, the atmosphere was enhanced by timecode-synchronised ambient lighting to create an immersive experience. In addition, various locations in Memmingen city centre were staged with atmospheric lighting, including five illuminated, inflatable cones as visual highlights.
In this way, the story of freedom was not only told – it was brought to life.
